Family Fitness – Bus Stop Exercising

If your bus doesn’t reliably show up at the scheduled time, you have ten to fifteen minutes of time each morning to stand around and be bored. Instead of standing and staring up the street, we started doing some family fitness routines in the mornings and are having a lot of fun. Hopefully, we’re also getting into shape. Here are a few bus stop exercises you can try with your kids:

  • Running or walking laps – We figured out that we could walk or jog back and forth 137 times in front of our family fitness stop and log a mile.
  • Walk like a… game – The kids love walking like a duck, a kangaroo, or an ostrich.
  • Random dancing – For iCarly fans, this one is self explanatory. You just dance freestyle when someone yells out “Random Dancing.”
  • Wedding dancing – Do the Twist, the Funky Chicken and all those other songs they seem to play at even the most elegant wedding receptions.
  • Stretchy people – Just a silly name for stretching exercises. Reach up high, bend down low, etc.
  • Playacting – An active version of charades where you do things like look for the bus, realize you missed it and then try to get the driver’s attention or chase down a very fast snail.

Do you have any exercises you do with your kids at the bus stop?
