Michael Jackson – The Danger of Fame

As I see newscast after newscast about Michael Jackson’s life and death, I have to wonder. Wasn’t there one person near him who cared? One person to say enough? One person to talk to him about God’s plan for his life instead of their own? Or were they all simply looking at him as a money making robot instead of as a person who was very ill, both physically and emotionally?

Michael Jackson fans write their last goodbyes

Fame. It brings money and it brings incredible stress. If a celebrity doesn’t have a strong foundation and a powerful support network that he or she turns to when it gets to be too much, he or she often self destructs. Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan almost lost it all when their lives spiraled out of control. Thankfully, people intervened and Britney is back on track. Michael Jackson wasn’t so lucky.

The next time his fans see a celebrity self destructing in public, maybe the’ll remember Michael Jackson’s painful downward spiral and death. Maybe, instead of grabbing the latest gossip magazines or buying the next concert ticket, they’ll stop participating in the things that are pushing that celebrity closer to destruction and start praying for him or her to realize that there is something more than empty fame. Praying that he or she will get help. Maybe they’ll start Monday by flipping the channel when Jon & Kate Plus Eight airs a new episode instead of eagerly following the newest developments in their very public divorce.
